The recently launched initiative "I Am My Brothers' and Sisters' Keeper: Living Our Commitment to Social Justice" calls attention to our obligation, as a Catholic university, to promote social justice, as set forth in Blessed Pope John Paul II's Ex Corde Ecclesiae. The month-long program provides a common place for students, administrators, faculty and staff to be educated about, exposed to and engaged with issues of societal challenges, justice and equity. Through this initiative, we hope to spark creative thinking about complex social issues from nurturing healthier relationships in our lives to learning more about bystander intervention to discussing larger issues like immigration reform and much more as we work and collaborate together to better the community.
Random Acts of Crusader Kindness Week will begin on Monday, February 10, 2014, and will run through Sunday, February 16, 2014. We would like all members of the UD community to strive to step out of their comfort zones and attempt a random act of Crusader kindness each day. Random acts of kindness are essential to our well-being, as they liberate us from selfishness and isolation. True generosity is giving without expectation, with no need to be repaid in any manner. We hope that Random Acts of Crusader Kindness Week will produce many powerful acts of unconditional, unattached generosity that can happen anywhere. We also hope to spark a chain reaction of "paying it forward" through kind deeds.
